Comstar is proud to announce it has partnered with Solutions Group, an innovation company solely focused on enhancing reimbursement across EMS.  Comstar will be providing all clients three new services to enhance client collections and improve its service to clients.

First, Solutions Group is providing Comstar clients with real-time Deductible Management, a break-through technology proven to reduce patient responsibility for unmet deductibles for EMS providers. Rather than being hit with unmet deductibles, wouldn’t you rather recoup directly from the patient’s insurance?  Together with Solutions Group, we’re making that happen for our clients.  

Second, Because Comstar believes billing the patient should be the last resort, Solutions Group is also providing Comstar its pre-billing scrubbing solution called Black Ink Self-Pay Recovery, a comprehensive search to uncover billable insurance for accounts with no known payer source. Knowing that patients in an emergency are not always in a position to report the information needed to bill private insurance, Black Ink helps to uncover insurance upfront, keeping patients out of collection queues, and more importantly maximizing revenue for Comstar's clients.

Third, To continue adding efficiencies to the our internal processes and improve our performance for clients, Comstar has also partnered with Solutions Group to create a custom, fully automated batch insurance verification process, whereby patient insurance is extracted, verified at the payer level, and moved into a live queues for billing, without ever needing a manual touch.  This break-through process reduced countless hours and manual touches across multiple departments while significantly reducing claim rejections.  

 


Medicare Audit Alert

Recently, we received the results from one of our clients who had the largest Medicare audit of accounts that we have seen to date at Comstar. In our past experiences, Medicare would request 1-3 trips as part of an audit.  In this case, as part of a random audit, they requested 40 trips from ONE (1) client.  Our client gave us permission to share the results of this audit with all of you.  In this specific audit, Medicare reviewed 40 random trips of this client from 2015.  Their audit resulted in retraction of 36 out of 40 of those payments.  Those payments were retracted because of two reasons:
  1. “Did not have patient signature”
  2. “ Beyond the closest appropriate facility”

Click here to view AAA’s (American Ambulance Association) recommended signature form.  Providers may use this one or create one of their own.  This form provided by AAA is intuitive to the crews in terms of laying out a clear path for getting a signature.
